Why we exist

India’s media landscape is overwhelmingly dominated by privileged caste groups, with 90% of leadership positions held by upper-caste individuals (Oxfam, 2019). This structural exclusion silences marginalised communities, denying them the right to self-represent.

To a large extent, the root of this exclusion lies in the education system. Schools which serve India’s poorest children, lack infrastructure for arts, media, and civic education, depriving students of creative expression, critical thinking, and advocacy skills.

According to a survey conducted by Nazaria with 400+ youth across 6 Indian states, 45% of youth reported that they do not feel safe to express themselves in schools.

Nazaria equips youth from marginalised communities with creative tools, mentorship, safe spaces, and platforms, so they can unlock their creative potential, amplify their voices, and build careers in the arts and media.
